What is whitelisting and how can it help

When an email address or domain gets whitelisted, it means that they’re marked as a safe sender so their emails aren’t automatically marked as spam. The process to whitelist an email address or domain varies by provider but is super easy to do. Let’s take a look at how to do it in Gmail.

How to whitelist an email in Gmail:

Follow the steps below to whitelist a specific email address or domain in Gmail so these emails don’t go to Spam.

  1. Go to your Gmail account

  2. Click the gear icon in the top-right, then select See All Settings

  3. Click the Filters and Blocked Addresses tab

  4. Click Create a New Filter

  5. In the pop-up window, enter the email address or domain (add hello@oh-lay.com) that you want whitelisted in the From field

  6. Click Create Filter

  7. Check "Never send it to Spam"

  8. Click Create Filter

This is a strong signal to email providers—i.e., Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo—that your recipients see you as a safe source.

Here is how to add contacts in Gmail:

  1. Go to Gmail.

  2. Open the email from the sender you want to add to your contacts.

  3. Tap the three dots icon to the right of the message.

  4. Click Add to Contacts list and it will be saved instantly.

  5. You can edit details and add more information through Google’s Contacts.

Here is how to add contacts in Gmail using Google contacts:

  1. Go to Gmail.

  2. Now click on the drop-down button for the apps menu, in the upper right corner of your screen, next to your profile picture.

  3. Then from the apps menu, click on "Contacts" to open your Google Contacts page.

  4. Click on "Create contact." on the new page, in the top left corner.

  5. Enter the required contact information

  6. Click on "Save" to add the person to your contacts list.
