building more meaningful connections

Last Mondays is a community of social journalers.

We’re called Last Mondays because we aim to make Mondays better. We want to take away the stress and the dread around Mondays, and infuse hope and excitement.

Our way is through social journaling. Social journaling combines personal reflection through journaling and group reflection through conversation to create the change - big or small - that we want to see for ourselves and our communities.

We meet on the last Monday of every month.

The more often you join us, the more people you’ll meet and the more familiar faces you’ll see. Let’s build, grow, and learn together.

Monthly Themes

January 27

Recalibrate. Recalibration is a daily practice of returning back to our alignment. The start of the new year brings the opportunity to start fresh, setting new resolutions and goals. A month in, we may realize the need to recalibrate. Through a series of reflection exercises, we shed what no longer serves us to focus more clearly on our priorities and to create more space for the upcoming year.

Remembrance. So easily we fall into the routine and pressures of work, responsibility, and life. Our days become singularly focused on the things we “have” to do or “should” be doing. We forget ourselves in the process. This Monday, we remember ourselves and recenter on our moments of happiness, gratitude, and fun.

Power. In the words of Gary Zukav: “Authentic power is building something inside of you, which you cannot lose and that no one can take from you.” Authentic power is our intrinsic strength, our natural superpower. Caught up in the distractions and distortions of life, we often forget what it is or how to share it. It is often in the community of loved ones that we remember what is means to be authentically powerful.

April 27

Weakness. Our friend, Ana del Castillo, shares: “Our weakness is the very thing that transforms us into the people that we are meant to be.” We can be broken and healing while being strong and whole. Weakness is a space and opportunity for us to find strength, sometimes in the ways that we least expect it.

MAY 25

Togetherness. Partnership is our greatest strength. How can your life be elevated by togetherness? Is there a dream, goal or areas of your life that could be expanded by partnership?

June 29

Home. Home is a complex word with layers of meaning - positive and negative. From the pandemic and shelter-in-place to homelessess vs. streetlessness to the current protests and uprisings around racism and police brutality, this moment in time is highlighting the complexities and controversies around home and what home means. In the words of the magnificent Maya Angelou: “I long, as does every human being, to be at home wherever I find myself.”

July 27

Unity. Discover with us what it means to be in unity with ourselves and with society around us. Join us for an interactive discussion on ways we can participate in more unity with the things we believe in.

AUGUST 31

Unlearn. This year has challenged us in so many ways as individuals, as neighborhoods, as communities. We're examining how we show up for ourselves and for others. We're finding new ways to establish balance and care in the midst of a pandemic and quarantine. We're challenging our participation in biased systems and exploitative structures. How can we learn and unlearn in ways that support real, sustained change in our lives and within our communities?

Space. Space has many layers of meaning and representations. Discover the difference between your inner space and outer space. Start by taking a moment to find the space within yourself - your body, your mind, and your spirit. Uncover the things that bring more balance and harmony.

OCTOBER 26

Selfhood. Selfhood is the quality that constitutes one’s individuality. In other words, selfhood encompasses the things that make you uniquely you. What is at the core of our selfhood? How do we show up for ourselves to strengthen that embrace of selfhood?
